It is striking that the movable bridge has two faces: a robust, sturdy appearance with brickwork on the south side and a light, transparent appearance for the part that borders the Urkerweg. This division is inspired by the location of the bridge on the transition between ecological green zone (north bank) and new housing estate (south side).
The new landmark is a valuable connection: as the main access to the future Zeeheldenwijk, but also as a meeting place for all Urk residents. For example, on the south bank immediately next to the bridge there is a spacious staircase that offers seating and leads to a fishing spot. On the north bank there is a pedestrian path along the Vaart under the bridge. From the point of view of traffic safety, two adjacent bridge decks were chosen for the bridge. The widest bridge deck is for car traffic, the other for cyclists and pedestrians.
