The 54 meter long bicycle bridge is made of steel. This contributes greatly to the slimness of the design, which is clearly visible at the steel support points, in addition to the bridge deck. The fact that the deck can be so slender is mainly due to the chosen structural principle: the bridge is moment-resistant on both sides; the support points work like pendulums.
The design is inspired by the aircraft industry. This is reflected in the wing-shaped deck cross-section of the bicycle bridge, but also in the slim and transparent design and the fluid movement that the bridge makes. The chosen route is therefore the most logical, safe and pleasant for all road users.

Underpass Bio-Science park Leiden
Underpasses
This involves a new underpass at the bio science park in Leiden for fast traffic, a new underpass for cyclists and adjustments to an existing bicycle tunnel. All are located around the intersection. The access road for fast traffic will be a green main access route with a green central reservation and a spacious layout. By designing the viaduct without intermediate support points and allowing the green central reservation to continue, we literally pull the green vein through the underpass.
The underside of the viaduct is covered with bamboo composite and matches the inner-city appearance. The tiled walls of the underpasses form a subtle pattern that refers to DNA profiles. All underpasses also have integrated lighting in the walls. ipv Delft designed the three underpasses in collaboration with Karres and Brands.

Nigtevecht bicycle bridge
Fitting in
The arch bridge over the Amsterdam Rhine Canal is optimally tailored to the environment. It is transparent, sleek and simple. In particular, the integration of the ramps of the bicycle bridge, which have a considerable length due to the required vertical clearance of 10 meters, was a challenge. On one side, the ramp is on legs parallel to the canal, so that users have a view of the new natural stepping stones along the canal. The ramp on the east side is compact to maintain an unobstructed view and fragment the landscape as little as possible.
Stairs on either side of the main span increase both safety and comfort for pedestrians. This gives them a shorter route. In addition, the separation of cyclists and pedestrians on the ramps prevents unsafe traffic situations.
